How to write a constructive blog comment

In writing responses to blog post prompts, be aware that you are writing to an open audience.  That is, you are not only writing to me, your instructor, you are writing to your classmates who also use the blog and the general public which may pass by the blog.

When you comment be concise and clear.  Use complete sentences and address the prompt directly.  Make sure you explicitly address all aspects of the prompt as necessary.

Thoughtful comments will also incorporate lessons and ideas from the course material.

In general, your comments are graded as follows:

  • 1/3 Relevance
    • This includes the basic concern: Are you on topic? Did you address the prompt in entirety?
  • 1/3 Thoughtfulness
    • This includes creativity, linking to course material, linking to current events (if you think appropriate) and critical thinking effort.
  • 1/3 Grammar
    • This includes complete sentences, punctuation, lack of typos, and general care to the way you write.
